Ruth Meiers Hospitality will open its new women and children's shelter next week, a result of taking over the former YES house.
YES dissolved inAugust and Ruth Meiers purchased the property for $40,000 that same month; YES donated the furnishings and appliances in the house, a $122,600 value.
After some upgrades, the new shelter will have its open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Residents will be moved from current housing - a duplex being leased from the Burleigh County Housing Authority - on Oct. 20.
"There will be more rooms and more space for them,"said Sue Martin, executive director.
Martin said members of the community came together to help with painting and decorating.
The house, located at 215 W. Front Ave, has eight bedrooms with beds for about 30 homeless women and children.
