A 12-year-old Mandan girl has been cited with endangering by fire after setting fire to some candy wrappers.
Mandan Police Sgt. Jay Gruebele said the fire was called in at 7:27 p.m. Tuesday. A small grass fire in a field in northeast Mandan was put out by the Mandan Fire Department, he said.
The girl said she had some candy wrappers she wanted to see burn, so she started them on fire with some matches, Gruebele said. When the fire got out of control, she tried to extinguish it by hitting it with wooden boards. He said she alerted her mother to the fire when that didn't work.
An officer estimated damages from the fire at $400, but Gruebele said grass was the only thing scorched in the fire. The field where the fire burned is owned by Mandan, Gruebele said.
