A fund has been established to help with medical expenses associated with a liver transplant for Jamie Deitz of New Leipzig.
Deitz, 27, daughter of James Deitz and Joann Zimmerman, has a liver disorder called Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1A and is undergoing testing related to a liver transplant at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Deitz and a sister were born with this genetic liver disorder, which requires that she be on cornstarch supplements during the day and tube-feeding regimen at night to prevent hypoglycemia.
A liver scan in July indicated the need for a liver transplant due to the presence of benign tumors which can become cancerous or begin bleeding. Donations may be given to the "Help Jamie Fund" at any US Bank, tax ID No. 30-0498855. Donations are tax-deductible.
