A Bismarck man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly attempting to choke his live-in girlfriend.
Mark Carlson, 21, was charged with the Class C felony Monday. South Central District Judge Sonna Anderson set bond for Carlson at $2,000 cash. She prohibited him from having contact with the alleged victim and prohibited him from possessing firearms.
Bismarck Police Lt. Randy Ziegler said officers were called to a northeast Bismarck address at 3:32 a.m. Monday for an assault. A 22-year-old Bismarck woman said Carlson had punched her in the face and attempted to strangle her.
Ziegler said the woman's face was swollen and she had marks on her neck. Both Carlson and the woman had been drinking, he said.
Anderson also prohibited Carlson from consuming alcohol while out on bond.
