The heavy, wet snow is moving out of North Dakota, with a warm-up in store.

Snowfall amounts totaled 7 inches in Hebron, west of Bismarck, and a record 5.8 inches in Bismarck on Tuesday night, the National Weather Service said.

The snowfall in Bismarck broke the mark of 4.2 inches set in 1945, the weather service said.

"It's going to taper off overnight, very slowly," said Bill Abeling, a meteorologist at the weather service in Bismarck. "It's going to be kind of cloudy and a little bit of light snow tomorrow, without much accumulation."

By the weekend, the state could look more like spring, he said, with temperatures warming into the mid-50s on Sunday.

The snow was expected to move into southern Minnesota, with up to 10 inches forecast for the Albert Lea area. Minneapolis-St. Paul was looking for up to 7 inches by late Wednesday.
