Employees at Scheels had good reason to keep their eyes on a customer - she was wearing a jail jumpsuit.
Employees at the sporting goods store in Kirkwood Mall called Bismarck police at 11:57 a.m. Saturday to report the woman had tried to steal a sweatshirt, valued at less than $50, Sgt. Dwight Offerman said. He said the employees were suspicious of the woman based on her garment of choice - an orange jail jumpsuit.
Melissa Wolfblack, 27, of Fort Yates, pleaded guilty on Monday to Class B misdemeanor theft of property, according to court documents. Bismarck Municipal Court Judge William Severin sentenced her to 10 days in jail.
Offerman said Wolfblack was wearing an orange jumpsuit - the garb of prisoners at the Bureau of Indian Affairs jail in Fort Yates. A police report did not say why she had been in jail in Fort Yates, but it said she had been allowed leave from the jail to go to Bismarck for medical reasons.
Police contacted the BIA jail, but they said Wolfblack could return on her own, Offerman said.
"BIA was unwilling to transport her," he said.
