A Bismarck woman has been charged with false information to law enforcement for allegedly fabricating a story about being kidnapped and driven to South Dakota in the trunk of a car.
Salli Littledog, 27, was charged Thursday with the Class Amisdemeanor. She will receive a summons to appear in court at a later date.
Littledog told police her ex-boyfriend and another man forced her into the trunk of a car on Dec. 30 around 4 p.m. and drove to McLaughlin, S.D.
Littledog said she escaped and walked to a gas station, where she claimed to speak to a police officer, Lt. Randy Ziegler said.
He said Littledog reported she talked to the officer, but he had to leave on a call. She said she then hitchhiked to Fort Yates, where her boyfriend picked her up and brought her to Bismarck.
Ziegler said a Bismarck police detective investigating the case noted a number of inconsistencies in Littledog's statements. He said she wavered on dates the alleged kidnapping occurred and was "wishy washy" on whether she ended up in McLaughlin or somewhere else.
Ziegler said the detective talked to the McLaughlin Police Department, and no officers had any knowledge of a woman claiming to have been kidnapped.
If convicted, Littledog could face up to one year in prison and fines of up to $2,000.
