Police arrested 17 adults and two juveniles for alcohol-law violations Saturday night.

Lt. Randy Ziegler said plainclothes and uniformed officers worked together Saturday night to watch liquor stores and respond to loud parties.

The special enforcement is paid for by grants from the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinqency Prevention. The grant must be used to fund enforcement of underage drinking laws, Ziegler said.

The 19 people arrested face a total of 25 charges, Ziegler said.

Plainclothes officers monitored activity outside Captain Jack's north and south locations, Cash Wise Liquor, Plaza Beer Depot, Polar Package and Stamart on State Street. If they suspected juveniles were receiving alcohol, the plainclothes officers informed uniformed officers, who would make traffic stops.

Most arrests made Saturday were for minor in possession. Other charges included disorderly conduct, delivery of alcohol to a minor, driving under the influence, minor in a liquor establishment and false information to law enforcement.

Among the arrests were the following cases:

n An officer saw a vehicle drive up at Cash Wise Liquor. The driver, a 22-year-old woman, went in the store and came out with a brown paper bag. The officer saw the woman give the passenger a bottle once she was back inside the vehicle. A uniformed officer pulled the vehicle over and learned that the passenger was a 20-year-old woman. The 22-year-old was arrested for delivery of alcohol to a minor, and the 20-year-old was arrested for minor in possession.

n An officer at Cash Wise Liquor saw two women who appeared to be younger than 21 enter the business. One of them was carrying a brown paper bag when they returned to a vehicle. A uniformed officer pulled the vehicle over and learned one of the women was 18 and the other was 19. Both were arrested for minor in a liquor establishment and minor in possession.

Ziegler did not know how the women were able to purchase the alcohol.

n An officer at Stamart saw a passenger in a vehicle go into the business while the driver, who appeared to be younger than 21, stayed outside. The passenger returned to the vehicle with a case of beer. The vehicle left. A uniformed officer saw the passenger give the driver the case of beer on the 1600 block of North 23rd Street, and the two women walked in opposite directions from each other. A 19-year-old woman was arrested for minor in possession, and a 21-year-old woman was arrested for delivery of alcohol to a minor.
