The North Dakota Motor Carriers Association is joining a national effort to reduce the speed limit to 65 mph.
The American Trucking Association is heading the effort.
Tom Balzer is the managing director of the North Dakota group. He says it's the right time to make a change.
Balzer says the lower speed limit would be safer and would save on fuel.
Balzer also says he understands some members of Congress are hesitating over the issue of the rights of states to set their own speed limits.
