Someone spray painted black hearts on buildings, vehicles and windows in downtown Bismarck.

The hearts, which generated 14 police reports, were reported Wednesday to police, Lt. Dan Donlin said. The vandals apparently struck Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, he said.

The hearts appear to have been stenciled on fixtures, then filled in, Donlin said.

Black hearts were painted on items at the following locations:

3 BNC National Bank, 322 E. Main Ave.

3 Urban Girl, 208 E. Broadway Ave.

3 R-D Hairstyling College, 315 E. Broadway Ave.

3 Westley's Jewelry, 417 E. Broadway Ave.

3 Loren McCray Law Firm, 419 E. Broadway Ave.

3 A stop sign at the intersection of Second Street and Thayer Avenue.

3 Budget Inn, 122 E. Thayer Ave.

3 North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders, 121 E. Rosser Ave.

3 Mason Apartments, 205 N. Second Street.

3 Anderson & Associates, 216 N. Second Street.

3 The Malloy Building, 115 North Fourth Street.

3 Mathison's, 112 N. Fourth Street.

3 Walkers N' Daughters Jewelers, 118 N. Fifth Street.

Multiple hearts were painted at some of the locations. Total damages from the vandalism have been estimated at $1,175, Donlin said.

The case is under investigation, he said.

Anyone with information about the vandalism should call the Bismarck Police Department at 223-1212 or Bismarck Area Crime Stoppers at 224-TIPS (224-8477).
