Bismarck police dealt with a rash of wrecks Tuesday throughout the city, including multiple hit-and-run incidents.

Sgt. Dwight Offerman said officers took 15 accident reports, including three that occurred before Tuesday.

Of the 12 wrecks that happened Tuesday, seven were of the hit and run variety.

Half of the wrecks occurred in parking lots, Offerman said. Collisions in parking lots aren't regular occurrences, he said.

"(Tuesday) probably was just a bad day for that,"he said.

Police also do not know why so many accidents occurred on Tuesday. Weather like the spring conditions on Tuesday rarely coincide with high numbers of wrecks. The streets were dry and visibility was good.

Offerman speculates that a normal day would yield five or six wrecks.

Tuesday's wrecks were spread out through the day and all over town, he said.
