The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a teenager killed in a dirt bike wreck on Sunday as Robert Vetter of Linton.
Vetter, 13, died after crashing head-on with a dirt bike driven by Tyler Gross, 16 of Linton.
Gross also was injured in the crash, which occurred at 4:32 p.m. Sunday, 12 miles east and two miles south of Linton on Emmons County Road 15. Gross was taken to Bismarck for his injuries.
A patrol press release said six teenage boys from Linton were riding motorcycles at the time of the crash. They were driving in the bottom of a ditch and jumping an approach to a field alongside a gravel road. The approach is at the top of a small hill, and it was not possible for the boys to see from one side of the approach to the other, the release said.
It said witnesses indicate that the two boys were trying to jump the approach at the same time from opposite directions. Neither boy was aware that the other was approaching. The motorcycles jumped at the same time and collided in mid-air. Both boys were wearing helmets.
Services for Vetter will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in rural Linton. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home of Linton.
