Fahlgren Pioneer Day at Fort Mandan in Washburn takes on a whole new flavor Saturday with the first Rhubarb Festival added to the schedule of activities.

Folk singer Chuck Suchy also will be performing in Fahlgren Memorial Park, according to Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation Executive Director Kristie Frieze.

Those interested can bring rhubarb recipes for everything from pies to sauces to muffins to be judged. Entries should be brought to the Headwaters Fort Mandan Visitor Center Saturday.

During the same time, breads and muffins (one loaf or six muffins) may be delivered, which will be judged on taste, texture and presentation. Winners will be announced at 10:30 a.m.

From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. pies, cakes and desserts may be dropped off. They will be judged on taste, presentation and creativity. Winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Ribbons and prizes will be awarded.

The First Lutheran Church Women of Washburn will be offering "church basement" food from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with Chuck Suchy performing at 6:30 p.m.
