An 11-year-old Bismarck boy has been cited with discharging a firearm in city limits for allegedly firing a shotgun in south Bismarck.

Bismarck Police Lt. Randy Ziegler said police were called to a southeast Bismarck neighborhood after people heard a gunshot, then saw a red car drive away. When officers arrived, witnesses said a young boy had fired a shotgun, then put it back in the red car. The car, driven by a woman, drove away.

Officers spoke to several juveniles playing in the area, and one girl reported her brother shot the gun, Ziegler said.

Mandan police located the red car and stopped it. Ziegler said the boy said he wanted to show the gun to a friend, and he said his mother said he could. The boy loaded the gun, fired a shot in the air and returned the gun to the car, Ziegler said.

The mother denied allowing the boy to fire the gun, Ziegler said. He said the boy was cited, but the mother is not expected to face charges.
