Extra Bismarck police officers on the street during the Class Abasketball tournaments last weekend arrested 50 people in alcohol-related incidents.
Of the 50 people arrested, 41 face charges of minor in consumption and four face delivery-of-alcohol charges. Two people are accused of minor in consumption and fleeing on foot, one is accused of minor in consumption and false information to law enforcement, one was arrested for minor in consumption, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and several warrants, and one was arrested on a warrant.
Sgt. Dwight Offerman said between eight and 10 extra officers worked the street Friday and Saturday night. Four extra officers worked Thursday night but did not generate as many arrests as their weekend counterparts.
"With the state Class As in town, we put more people out and about,"he said.
The extra officers patrolled around the Civic Center, around liquor stores and responded to loud party complaints in neighborhoods and hotels.
Not all of the 11 reports generated Friday night and Saturday night could be directly linked to the tournament, Offerman said. Some incidents were handled by the extra officers because they were available, he said.
In one instance believed to be related to the tournament, eight West Fargo students were arrested for minor in consumption, and one student was arrested for minor in consumption and false information to law enforcement, Offerman said. He said the report was taken at a Bismarck hotel. In another instance, a 21-year-old Mandan woman was arrested for delivery of alcohol to a minor, and five Williston boys were arrested for minor in possession, Offerman said.
Other arrests made include five Fargo boys arrested for minor in consumption at a Bismarck hotel, 12 Bismarck and Mandan minors arrested at a house party in northwest Bismarck for minor in consumption, and several incidents of officers witnessing adults supplying minors with alcohol after leaving liquor stores.
