NEW TOWN (AP) - The Three Tribes Museum here is gearing up for next month's Lewis and Clark bicentennial signature event.

The museum will host an exhibit from the Montana Museum of Art and Culture that features paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures by 19 nationally and internationally recognized artists, museum administrator Marilyn Hudson said.

The exhibit "Contemporary Native American Art Reflections After Lewis and Clark" will be on display at the Three Tribes Museum from Aug. 1-Sept. 16.

The museum also will have several special presentations and works of quiltmaker Mildred Fox Jordt.

The signature event, titled "Reunion at the Home of Sakakawea," is scheduled Aug. 17-20. It is one of 15 such events being held in 13 states to mark the bicentennial of the journey of explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.

The New Town event will be the last signature event in North Dakota. A signature event was held in Bismarck in October 2004.

A four-day signature event that begins July 22 at Pompey's Pillar National Monument in Montana will feature presentations by two North Dakotans.

Amy Mossett, executive director of the Mandan-based Northern Plains Heritage Foundation, is an expert on Sakakawea. Tracy Potter, executive director of the Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation in Mandan, will talk about Mandan Chief Sheheke.
