Mandan City Commissioner Dan Ulmer is joining Mayor Ken LaMont in announcing he will not seek re-election, though Commissioner Sandra Tibke will have her name on the June ballot.
For the past 22 years, Ulmer has been an elected public servant, the past 16 on the Mandan City Commission. Prior to that, he served six years in the North Dakota Legislature.
"A lot of folks have been hammering for change, so I guess it's time for a change," Ulmer said. "I'm going to kind of sit back and see what God wants me to do with myself."
Ulmer said he's not necessarily writing off never seeking election again.
Tibke was first appointed to the city commission five and a half years ago, and then elected in 2004. Last year, she survived a recall election, as did LaMont and Ulmer.
"It was a tough decision, particularly considering my four kids," Tibke said. "But there is still a lot to do and I have some experience to offer."
LaMont announced earlier in the month he would not be seeking re-election, partially due to health concerns.
