The Christian Leadership Center at the University of Mary is bringing the Rev. Roland Martinson to Bismarck to speak Jan. 19 and 20 at its January Leadership Days.
Martinson, professor of children, youth and family ministry at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., will give a series of presentations on the topic of teaching pastors and lay leaders to be proactive in shaping families for life and faith. Martinson is the author of numerous books on youth and family ministry, including "Across the Generations," "Incorporating All Ages in Ministry:The Why and How" and "Coming of Age:Exploring the Spirituality and Identity of Younger Men."
The Jan. 19 presentation is called "Spiritual but Hardly Religious: Reaching Emerging Adults and Other Post-moderns," from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Benedictine Center for Servant Leadership.
A special event for Luther Seminary alumni and their spouses is planned for 7-8:30 p.m. that day. This is an informal evening for alumni to renew acquaintances. The event is free of charge, but an RSVP is requested by contacting Sister Kathleen Atkinson at 355-8336 or at katkinson@;umary.edu.
The presentation from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 20 is "The Spirit and Culture of Youth Ministry: Passing on Vital Life and Faith to New Generations," at the Clairmont Center's Heskett Hall.
Registration is $25 per day, which includes all sessions, materials and food. Early registration before Tuesday is $20 per day. Checks may be made payable to the University of Mary and mailed to the Christian Leadership Center, 7500 University Drive, Bismarck, N.D. 58504.
Martinson's books will be available from the Rainbow shop prior to the event.
