FARGO - The National Weather Service is not changing its flood crest predictions for the Red River, despite the several inches of snow that fell in parts of the region this week.
Below-average temperatures for the remainder of the week will keep snow melt to a trickle, said Dan Riddle, a weather service meteorologist in Grand Forks.
That means Red River's anticipated crest in Fargo will remain at between 28 and 29 feet early Friday, Riddle said.
The river was expected to reach 26 feet or higher on Wednesday.
Riddle said daytime highs over the next several days should stay below or near freezing. Sunshine will contribute to snow melt, he said.
Al Weigel, Fargo's operations manager, said as long as the crest prediction doesn't change, the city won't be building emergency dikes.
