12:01 p.m. - Semi gas drive-off one of largest ever

Bismarck police are looking for a suspect in a gas drive-off that may result in felony theft charges.

Police responded to a call to the Oasis Truck Stop at 3936 E. Divide Ave. Saturday at 7:10 p.m. Employees said a semi with Wisconsin license plates had pumped $758.23 of diesel fuel and drove away without paying.

The semi is red but officers are unsure of the make or year. The truck also had an emblem for WEL Logistics, a freight company. Police Lt. Dan Donlin said the emblem may have been removed by now.

Before pumping the gas, the suspect told the clerk the license plate number, which was verified using security camera video. Donlin said the plates have an unregistered number.

"It's just a simple gas drive off," Donlin said. "We usually just don't hear of it happening with a semi or being that amount of money."

Since the amount of gas was worth more than $500, the theft is considered a felony.
