Candidates for the special election for an open seat on the Mandan City Commission must file applications by 4 p.m. Aug. 29 to be eligible.

The opening position was created by Tim Helbling's ascension to the mayor's office.

The special election will be held in conjunction with the Nov. 4 general election.

Available forms are in the city auditor's office or online at www.nd.gov/sos/electvote.

Part of eligibility includes 223 petition signatures, but the auditor's office requests candidates gather 300 to allow for verification of no repeat petitions.
