A convicted sex offender who lives in Mandan now faces a felony charge related to possession of child pornography.

Jerome Acosta, 54, was charged Monday with Class C felony possession of prohibited materials-child pornography.

Acosta, who also is facing a Class C felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender, has been released on a $5,000 bond covering both cases.

According to an affidavit from Mandan Police Detective Beth Tebelius, police received information that Acosta had videos depicting child pornography.

Police executed a search warrant on Acosta's home on Oct. 24 and seized videotapes and DVDs, the affidavit said.

Acosta, a moderate-risk offender, has been convicted of three prior sex offenses. He was convicted of oral copulation in Lodi, Calif., District Court in 1978; of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes in Seattle District Court in 1988; and of gross sexual imposition in Cass County in 1990. The three offenses involve Acosta sexually assaulting or luring 11- to 14-year-old boys, according to the North Dakota attorney general's sex offender Web site.

The Web site said the sentences imposed for Acosta's first two convictions are unknown, but he was sentenced to six years in prison with two years suspended for the Cass County gross sexual imposition conviction.

Acosta, who also is known by the last name Senger, was charged Dec. 7 with Class Cfelony failure to register as a sex offender. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge, and a trial date has not been set.
