Bismarck police officers honored

Officers were honored at the Bismarck Police Department's annual awards banquet on Friday.

Officer Preston McKay, who is a patrol officer, was named Officer of the Year. Darla Mork, who works in the Police Youth Bureau, was named Employee of the Year.

The Officer of the Year and Employee of the Year awards are decided by a special committee, which reviews nominations.

Officers Jeff Azure, Jason Bullis and Luke Beasley received the Life Saving Award for their actions during medical emergencies.

Sgt. Steve Kenner received a Commendable Service Certificate for assisting officers during a medical call, and Sgt. Dwight Offerman received a Commendable Service Certificate for his leadership while implementing new computer programs at the department.

Officer Terry Glatt received a Letter of Recognition for many years of service on the department's Awards Board Committee.

Awards also were given to employees who operate motor vehicles without an accident for five years and to sworn employees who received the highest scores on a fitness test for their age bracket and high scores in certain fitness categories.

Three people received retirement plaques: Capt. Ralph Mowder, who retired after 34 years of service, Lt. Leonard Rohrer, who retired after 34 years of service, and Officer Tim Turnbull, who retired after 28 years of service.
