For Bismarck residents not wanting to take part in the endless festivities in Mandan for Independence Day, there is a closer option.
The Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra Fourth of July Extravaganza is a fireworks display accompanied by music. It is at the Capitol building, and although the light show doesn't begin until 10:15 p.m., family events, concessions and inflatable fun for the kids start at 6:30.
Then at 7:30, the Saxophone Ensemble will play, followed by The Ravens and then the Elks Men's Chorus.
Following the three groups, Gov. John Hoeven will kick things off accompanied by the national anthem and a helicopter flyover from the National Guard. The orchestra will begin playing tentatively around 8:15 and will play through the fireworks light show.
