A Mandan man faces several misdemeanor charges after allegedly striking a fire hydrant and two parked cars with his vehicle.

Christopher Haag, 25, pleaded not guilty in district court to fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, a Class Amisdemeanor. He also pleaded not guilty in Bismarck Municipal Court to driving under the influence and duty upon striking unattended vehicle, both Class Bmisdemeanors.

South Central District Judge Bruce Haskell set bond for Haag at $1,000 cash, based on a recommendation from Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Justin Schwarz. Schwarz said Haag has an extensive criminal history, which includes a recent failure to appear for a court hearing.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Dwight Offerman said police received several calls at around 12:41 a.m. Sunday about an erratic driver westbound on Main Avenue. The vehicle had struck a fire hydrant at the intersection of Seventh Street andMain Avenue, then struck two parked cars just west of the intersection of Fifth Street and Main Avenue, Offerman said.

Officers located the vehicle around Third Street and Main Avenue, and the driver would not stop, Offerman said. He said officers attempted to box the car in on the 100 block of North Third Street, but the car drove toward one of the squad cars.

Officers eventually were able to stop the vehicle and arrest the driver, identified as Haag, Offerman said. He said Haag was intoxicated.

Haag told Haskell he plans to enter an inpatient treatment center, such as Teen Challenge, if he gets out of jail.
