A jury found Dr. Emilio Louis Cruz guilty of felony terrorizing on Wednesday, but the same jury found him not guilty of misdemeanor simple assault.

The charges stem from a December incident when Cruz, of Bismarck, threatened his girlfriend's 13-year-old son with a knife.

Cruz, a neurologist, faces a second charge of misdemeanor simple assault in a trial that begins today from a separate incident in April.

Cruz's position at Medcenter One was terminated on April 25. Officials with Medcenter One were unable to comment on the reason for his termination.

Duane Houdek, executive secretary with the State Board of Medical Examiners, said no hearing about Cruz is scheduled with the board at this time. He said the board is familiar with the charges.

"Our statutes provide that conviction of any felony can be cause for disciplinary action," Houdek said. "That's what is the issue at this point with the board."
