MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A sleeping woman and her bed were pushed into her yard when part of her bedroom wall collapsed around her after a pickup crashed into the house, police say.
Karen Seaman, 55, was sleeping in her Minot home when the pickup ripped through shortly after midnight, tearing off a corner of the house, authorities said. Firefighters were called to extricate her.
"The pickup had pushed completely through the corner of the bedroom and pushed her out the side of the house," Police Sgt. John Klug said. "The fire department did some work so they could get her out. There was so much stuff, it was hard to tell exactly how she was trapped, but it looks like it would have been the mattress, the side of the house and the pickup itself that had her pinned."
Klug said the pickup driver, Dustin Howery, 21, of Minot, lost control of the vehicle and it struck a street light pole, then veered into the house.
Klug said Howery ran from the scene but was found a couple of blocks away, about an hour later.
Seaman and Howery were taken to Minot's Trinity Hospital, where they were treated and released, the hospital said. Police said a passenger in the pickup was treated for minor injuries.
Howery was jailed on charges of drunken driving, aggravated reckless driving and leaving the scene of an injury accident, Klug said.
Crews were working Friday morning to get the pickup out of the house and to find supports for the building, Klug said.
"There's nothing holding up the whole corner of the house," he said.
