Nine candidates are being asked to complete an accomplishment survey as the search continues for a Civic Center manager.

The city received 16 applications for the position, which has been open with the retirement of Dick Petersen. Human resources director Charles Klein will be pulling together a search committee to screen the remaining candidates after the Thanksgiving holiday.

"I think we have potentially, some pretty well-qualified people," Klein said. "We must have gotten the word out, we've gotten applications from around the country, along with local candidates."

Plans are to have the search committee narrow the list to four or five candidates who will be interviewed by the city commission. Hopes are to have the new manager at work early in January.

Those applicants who have been sent the survey to complete within the next 10 days are:

n Reed Katzun, of Mandan, a venue manager for Contemporary International.

n Ron Staiger, Bismarck, Civic Center operations manager.

n Ross Horner, Bismarck, Civic Center marketing manager.

n Carl Levi, White Bear Lake, Minn., corporate sales account executive for the Minnesota Wild professional hockey team.

n Patrick Christopherson, Breckenridge, Colo., executive director of the Breckinridge Heritage Alliance.

n Jeff Hunter, Rhoadesville, Va., general manager of the Club Events Center for Nashville University.

n David Pisha, Asheville, N.C., director of the Asheville Civic Center.

n Charles Jeske, Grand Forks, executive director of the Alerus Center.

n Stephen Hyman, Streamwood, Ill., CEO, owner-co-founder of Arenas, a consulting service for arena design, management and public relations.

Klein said the search committee will review the accomplishment surveys, which focus on what the candidates have done in the past, and match the information up with the job description and expectations for the Civic Center.

The advertised salary range for the Civic Center manager job is $64,500 to $72,500 annually.
