A North Dakota Department of Transportation construction worker was injured Tuesday morning when he was hit by a motorist on Interstate 94 in east Mandan.
Francis Bosch, 24, of Bismarck, was driving west on I-94 when he struck Kent Leysring, of Bismarck, 40, who was working with a state Highway Department construction crew filling potholes just west of the Tesoro refinery exit.
Capt. Don Glarum of the Highway Patrol said Bosch hit Leysring with the right outside mirror of his 1995 Dakota Dodge pickup while driving about 60 mph. Leysring was hit in the head and upper torso areas. He was taken by ambulance to St. Alexius Hospital, where he was released Tuesday afternoon.
Glarum said the ongoing investigation hasn't revealed the exact details of the accident. David Sprynczynatyk, director of NDDOT, said his department also will investigate the incident to determine if the accident was a "result of what we've done or failed to do." He couldn't remember the last time an accident involving a NDDOT worker happened.
No citations have been issued. Glarum said any charges against Bosch would be brought and handled through the Morton County state's attorney's office.
Airport
A second accident Tuesday morning occurred at the Bismarck Airport, where a construction worker employed by Oxentenko Inc. fell 15 feet off scaffolding, according to the Bismarck Fire Department. Conscious and breathing, the worker was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. No other details were available.
