Local snowboarders found fun on the slopes Sunday at Huff Hills.

About 30 boarders came out to participate in a Burton On Snow Demo and a game of "JIB," an event co-sponsored by Savvy Skate and Snow Shop and Burton. This is the second year Savvy and Burton have collaborated for an event at Huff Hills.

Burton Midwest Team Riders Mikey D and R.P. led participants in a game of "JIB."

Participants had to successfully complete the tricks that Mikey D. and R.P. landed, or else they received a letter. Those who reached "JIB" were out of the competition.

Bismarck High School senior Troy Vossler, 18, came in third place in the "JIB" competition, even though he has a broken arm. Vossler broke his right arm while snowboarding two weeks ago, but he said he wasn't about to let that stop him from participating in Sunday's event.

Savvy Skate and Snow Shop owner Rob Sauvageau, a Bismarck native, said snowboarding events give local kids something positive to do.

"(The game of 'JIB') makes kids raise the bar and get better," Sauvageau said.

Huff Hills Mountain Operations Manager Andy Beck said he was happy with the event's turnout, and he hopes to see more people on the slopes throughout the holiday season.

"We've had a good, steady day," Beck said. "We get kids from all over who come out (to ski or snowboard)."

Huff Hills Ski Area, located 16 miles south of Mandan on Highway 1806, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day through Jan 6., except Dec. 25.
