Prairie School - The Billings County School District will host a reception at about 8 p.m. to honor Sharleen Stigen, who is retiring after 31 years in Billings County Schools, following graduation May 20. Present and former students, colleagues, parents and friends are invited.

Elgin - A free car safety seat checkup will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Elgin Community Center. Parents and caregivers should try to bring the child rider, the original safety seat instructions and vehicle owners manual. The checkup is sponsored by the Custer District Health Unit and the state Department of Health.

Mott - An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Hettinger County Courthouse in Mott to honor Hettinger County Sheriff Terry Marigny, who is retiring from the position. The public is invited.
Also, the 96th annual meeting of the Mott Equity Exchange will be held at 6 p.m. May 31 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Mott. Two directors and two advisory board members will be elected. Dinner will be served after the meeting.

Watford City - McKenzie County residents can use the county landfill free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 19. The event is offered to McKenzie County residents in time for spring cleanup. Some rules apply, including no tires, no cars and no commercial or industrial garbage.

Hebron - Starting at 8 a.m. today and Tuesday, volunteers are needed to help with repairs at Fort Sauerkraut at Hebron. Volunteers will help cut sod and truck it to the fort, and the sod formerly used to build walls four years ago will be moved to the fort bunker. To volunteer, call 878-4256. If weather interferes, the work will be rescheduled to May 19 and May 20.
