Bismarck police were busy Tuesday morning, dealing with reports of a stolen vehicle, indecent exposure and a state vehicle blowing through a crosswalk, all by 8:25 a.m.

n A 55-year-old Fargo man reported around 7 a.m. Tuesday that his rental car had been stolen from the parking lot of his hotel in northeast Bismarck, Sgt. Dwight Offerman said. He said the man had left the car running and unlocked at 6:50 a.m., and by 7 a.m., the car had been stolen.

Offerman said Minot police called Bismarck police to report finding the vehicle at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday. The car, which was a rental from Reliance Aviation, had been involved in a wreck and had "extreme front-end damage," Offerman said.

Minot Police Lt. Dan Strandberg said a man was arrested around 2 a.m. Wednesday for possession of stolen property, preventing arrest and loaded firearm in a motor vehicle. However, the man had not been identified by Wednesday afternoon.

"The person arrested is not telling us who he is," Strandberg said.

He said the man was carrying identification belonging to a different person and had given officers several names. Strandberg said they were uncertain if any of the names were correct.

Usually people who give fake names give up their true identity much quicker, Strandberg said. Officers will continue to try to get the man's real name.

"We hang on to him until we find out," Strandberg said.

n A woman living in an apartment building on the 100 block of West Interstate Avenue reported seeing a man walk naked into the building's common laundry room around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Offerman said.

He said a second woman also said she saw the man from outside the building. The man was in the laundry room for about 15 minutes, and one of the women reported seeing the man fondle himself, Offerman said.

He said the 54-year-old man has not been arrested, but the case will be forwarded to the state's attorney for possible charges.

n A crossing guard working at the intersection of North Seventh Street and East Avenue E reported around 8:25 a.m. Tuesday that a state vehicle had driven through the crosswalk without stopping while the road was blocked for students, Offerman said.

He said the license plate for the vehicle came back to a car owned by Dickinson State University, and a 58-year-old man was driving the vehicle. The man said he did not see the crossing guard because of a vehicle in the next lane.

The crosswalk primarily is used by students walking to Bismarck High School and Will Moore Elementary School.

The case will be forwarded to the city attorney for a possible citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The offense carries a $50 fine.
