A Garrison woman accused of stealing more than $20,000 from community events has pleaded guilty to three counts of felony theft.
Michelle Kallberg, 33, entered guilty pleas to one Class B felony count of theft of property and two Class C felony counts of theft of property before South Central District Judge Tom Schneider on Wednesday at the McLean County Courthouse.
Kallberg was charged May 3 with the offenses and remains free after posting a $3,000 surety bond.
Kallberg has been accused of stealing $19,326.25 from the Dickens Village Festival Committee while she served as the treasurer of the committee.
Kallberg also has been accused of stealing money from two Garrison Area Jaycees fundraisers while she served as president of that organization. She has been accused of stealing $2,196.27 from the Coleharbor Relief Fund and $864.53 from a Jaycees fundraiser for the Garrison Fire Department.
According to affidavits from McLean County Sheriff's Deputy David Pederson, Kallberg allegedly overpaid herself for her work with the Dickens Village Festival Committee, deposited checks made out to the committee in her personal bank account and reimbursed herself for things for which there were no records.
And Kallberg allegedly deposited checks meant for the Jaycees' fundraisers in her checking account and over-reimbursed herself out of the group's accounts, the affidavits said.
McLean County State's Attorney Ladd Erickson said Kallberg also has gone by the last names of Plowman, Burcham and Theusch.
Under the last name of Theusch, Kallberg was convicted of felony theft in 2000 for stealing money from a Minot Boy Scout troop. She was sentenced to five years with all but one year suspended and four years of supervised probation.
Erickson said Kallberg also has convictions for misdemeanor forgery, petty theft and for writing bad checks.
"There's some history," he said.
Kallberg is slated to be sentenced by Schneider on Oct. 18.
