An inmate at the Burleigh County Detention Center failed to return to the jail after being released on a six-hour pass to attend his grandfather's funeral.

Walter Scott Chasing Hawk, 36, was charged Tuesday with escape, a Class Cfelony, said Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Julie Lawyer. She said a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

South Central District Judge David Reich, on Thursday, granted Chasing Hawk a six-hour pass to attend his grandfather's funeral on Friday.

Chasing Hawk was in the custody of the Burleigh County Detention Center on $1,500 cash bond awaiting a revocation of probation hearing for a conviction of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Reich sentenced Chasing Hawk to two years with all but 30 days suspended and credit for 30 days served on Feb. 20, according to court documents. Chasing Hawk's probation officer, Courtney Schauer, filed a petition to revoke Chasing Hawk's probation on April 2. The petition alleges that Chasing Hawk used alcohol and failed to go to a halfway house to avoid revocation.

Chasing Hawk was released at 9 a.m. Friday and was supposed to return to the facility at 3 p.m. He has not returned, said Burleigh County Sheriff's Capt. Colin Rixen.

He said Chasing Hawk has a listed address of a mobile home in the park at 2520 E. Broadway Ave.

Anyone with information about Chasing Hawk's whereabouts should call a local law enforcement agency.
