The Bismarck Public Library has created an event to provide middle school students with volunteer hours.
The Teen VIPs, a volunteer group run through the library, and Dakota Media Access, will be presenting the Book Jam 2009 at the Bismarck Public Library on Jan. 10. Middle school students will get the chance to help the Children's Library Renovation Project while being involved in this event. Participants will be cleaning the library's children's books. They also will get to enjoy music, movies, trivia, prizes and snacks during their session.
"We want to give teens a volunteer opportunity," Kathy Vander Vorst, head of Teen Services, said.
Along with the volunteer time, the project is a way to help kick the renovation project into high gear. During the renovation, the children's section of the library will be remodeled. Through the Book Jam 2009 event, middle school students and younger children will be benefitting.
There will be two sessions, one at 9 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m. Each will be three and a half hours long. At the end of their shift, students will receive a certificate verifying that they did do their volunteer time. The certificate can then be used toward whatever group or organization the students may need volunteer hours for.
Call 355-1487 to reserve a spot in either of the sessions.
