An alleged threat by a Fort Lincoln Elementary School sixth-grade student resulted in an investigation by the Mandan Police Department.
The student, a girl, allegedly said she would harm another student. The parents of the other student said the threat involved a gun, but the girl denies it, Superintendent Wilfred Volesky said.
Principal Jean Schafer heard of the threat Tuesday, after school hours, and contacted the parents and students, and Wednesday she contacted the police, Volesky said.
The nature of the threat prompted the district to bring in the police.
"Anytime we hear something like that, we take it seriously because we don't know how serious (the threat) is," he said.
The police are investigating. The school district also does its own investigation. Schafer met with the parents and student, and the student was disciplined.
"What was done was appropriate," Volesky said, although he would not elaborate on what discipline was taken.
He referred additional questions about discipline to law enforcement and the principal. No one was available at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the police department to comment about the investigation. A message was left with Schafer at Fort Lincoln. She returned the call, and left a message at the Tribune, which was unable to be returned before she left for the day.
