A Bismarck attorney has confirmed that the North Dakota congressional delegation has submitted his name to the White House for consideration to be the next U.S. Attorney for the state.
"My understanding is that my name has been forwarded to the White House for consideration for the U.S. attorney job in North Dakota," Tim Purdon said Tuesday.
Sean Neary, director of communications for Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., said the state's congressional delegation has submitted a list of qualified candidates for the U.S. attorney position to President Barack Obama. Neary could not comment on who was on the list.
Purdon, an attorney with Vogel Law Firm, handles criminal defense, plaintiff's personal injury and consumer fraud litigation cases, according to the firm's Web site. He attended North Dakota State College of Science and graduated summa cum laude from Moorhead State University in 1991. He graduated cum laude from Hamline University School of Law in 1994.
Following law school, Purdon clerked for the U.S. District Judge Bruce M. Van Sickle. He served as state chairman for the John Edwards campaign and is a Democratic national committeeman.
"I'm honored even to be considered for this,"he said.
Jasper Schneider, a Fargo attorney and state representative whose name also has come up in discussions about possible U.S. attorney candidates, said he does not know if he is being considered for the position.
