An 8-year-old Dickinson boy died Tuesday in a car crash two miles south of town.
Zachary Arthaud and Kendra Palanluk, 16, were passengers in a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am driven by their mother, Carla Arthaud, 34, said North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Tony Huck. The trio was northbound on 112th Avenue S.W. from their home to school when they collided with a truck traveling west on 40th Street S.W. to a gravel pit.
The family was taken to St. Joseph's hospital where Zachary died of injuries he suffered in the crash. The driver of the truck, Donald Lantz, 45, Dickinson, wasn't injured. Lantz was the only one involved in the accident who was wearing a seatbelt.
No one has been cited in connection with the accident, and it's still under investigation, Huck said. He said the gravel truck had a yield sign, but it was more than 200 feet from the intersection. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The Grand Am had extensive front-end damage and the gravel truck sustained moderate damage to its side.
