A Bismarck man was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison and three years of probation for eight drug-related charges.

Jason Fahlstrom, 26, was convicted of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, a class A felony.

In addition, Fahlstrom was convicted of seven class C felonies involving possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia related to both drugs.

Fahlstrom told Burleigh County District Judge Sonna Anderson an 18-month sentence would be long enough for him to complete treatment and would be enough time in prison to motivate him to stay out of trouble.

Anderson responded that because of the number of charges Fahlstrom had, 18 months would not be sufficient and even two years was a lenient sentence.

"He could be looking at a heck of lot more jail time," Assistant Burleigh County State's Attorney Lloyd Suhr said. "He could be looking at spending almost life in prison."

Fahlstrom's attorney, Kent Morrow, told the judge it is clear to him that Fahlstrom wants to get back on his feet and get his problem under control.

"(Fahlstrom) is getting a break considering the excessive charges," Anderson said.

Fahlstrom also will pay more than $5,000 in court fees.
