To reduce the potential for wildfires, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department is prohibiting open burning this spring on the Oahe Wildlife Management Area south of Bismarck and Mandan.
All open burning, including campfires, is banned until further notice in the 16,000-acre WMA, which covers both sides of the Missouri River in portions of Burleigh, Emmons and Morton counties, said Jeb Williams, wildlife resource management supervisor.
The ban is intended to reduce the wildlife risks in the heavily wooded area that sees high use from anglers, campers and other outdoor enthusiasts in an area prone to wildfires prior to spring green-up.
Burning restriction signs are posted at all entrances to the WMA.
