GRAND FORKS (AP) - State game wardens say a rare trumpeter swan was shot and killed in Grand Forks County, and they're offering a reward for information.
Game Warden Gary Rankin says the swan might be one of a nesting pair spotted north of McCanna last year. He said the trumpeters were the first nesting pair to be documented in North Dakota in more than 100 years.
Rankin said the swan was shot and killed Tuesday in a wide spot on the north branch of the Turtle River.
The state Game and Fish Department is offering as much as $1,000 for information .
Rankin said whoever shot the trumpeter swan could face misdemeanor charges.
