WALHALLA, N.D. (AP) - Pembina County authorities are searching for a man involved in an incident that is being treated as an attempted abduction of an elementary school-age girl.

It happened yesterday afternoon about the time school was letting out for the day. Authorities say a man approached the girl near the Walhalla school and offered her a ride.

The girl refused, and the man left. The sheriff's office says the white male in his mid-40s was driving a black, older-model sports car with gray or silver stripes along the bottom.

Chief Deputy Jeff Osvold says witnesses reported seeing the man walking through the Walhalla school earlier in the day.

Schools in nearby Neche and Pembina were notified and locked down for the last few minutes of the school day.
