The former Burleigh County engineer will be inducted into the North Dakota Highway Hall of Honor.

Jon Mill, who retired in January from the Burleigh County post, will be the 40th person inducted into the hall. A ceremony is slated for June 22.

Mill served as the Burleigh County engineer from 1981 to Jan. 2. During his time in the position, he was named both the county engineer of the year and the appointed official of the year by the North Dakota Association of Counties.

A release from the Department of Transportation notes that Mill has served in a variety of transportation committees and organizations, including the North Dakota Association of County Engineers, the North Dakota Department of Transportation Research Advisory Committee, the National Association of County Engineers, the American Society of Highway Engineers and the North Dakota Society of Professional Land Surveyors.

"His conservative fiscal spending, budgeting and project cost containment has allowed Burleigh County to keep pace with the rapid economic development and transportation needs," the DOTrelease said.

Prior to working for Burleigh County, Mill served as construction coordinator for the Valley City district of the North Dakota Department of Transportation and did similar work for the U.S. Forest Service during summers. He earned a bachelor of science degree in construction engineering from Montana State University.

The Highway Hall of Honor recognizes people who have improved the state highway system or a regional highway system, as well as people who have used their influence as members of national or regional organizations to improve the highway system's effectiveness or safety. The Highway Hall of Honor Committee is comprised of representatives for highway contractors, city and county organizations, motor carriers and the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

The public is invited to attend the Hall of Honor luncheon, which will begin at noon June 22 at the Radisson Hotel in Bismarck. Tickets are $18 and are available for purchase through June 17. To order tickets, contact Laurie Martin at 328-2584.
