The North Dakota Democratic and Republican parties provided lists of upcoming young politicians. Here they are in no particular order.

Zachary Ista

Ran for the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 13.

Age: 21

Political party: Democrat.

Professional experience: Intern for Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and works as a seventh-grade basketball coach at West Fargo Cheney Middle School.

Education: Student at the North Dakota State University. 2003 graduate of West Fargo High School. Currently studying for a degree in secondary education.

Ben Vig

Elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 23.

Age: 23

Political party: Democrat.

Professional experience: Interned with Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., in Washington, D.C., and is a fifth-generation farmer. His family farm is located near Aneta.

Education: Graduated from Valley City State University in 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in history. Also attended Bismarck State College.

Chad Berger

Ran for the North Dakota Senate, District 37.

Age: 23

Political party: Democrat.

Hometown: Dickinson.

Education: Attending Dickinson State University.

Stuart Savelkoul

Ran for North Dakota House of Representatives, District 37.

Age: 24

Political party: Democrat.

Hometown: Dickinson.

Professional experience: Housing coordinator at Dickinson State University.

Education: Attending Dickinson State University.

Nick Hacker

Youngest state senator in North Dakota history when he was elected in November 2004 at age 22.

Age: 25

Political party: Republican.

Hometown: Alexandria, Minn.

Professional experience: Served as a member of the North Dakota Higher Education Roundtable, chief justice of the University of North Dakota Interfraternity Council and vice president of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

Education: Attended University North Dakota with majors in finance and entrepreneurship.

Stacey Horter

Elected in 2004 to the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 42.

Age: 25

Political party: Republican.

Hometown: Bismarck.

Education: Graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in secondary education.

Chris Griffin

Elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 19.

Age: 26

Political party: Democrat

Hometown: Larimore

Professional experience: Associate attorney at Hammarback Dusek & Associates in Grand Forks.

Education: Undergraduate degree in political science and law degree at University of North Dakota.

Jasper Schneider

Recently elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 21.

Age: 26

Political party: Democrat.

Professional experience: Started Sudhain Media, an information technology business, from his dorm room at Jamestown in 2000. Schneider currently practices law at the Schneider Law Firm, specializing in labor and employment law. He also works as an adjunct professor at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he teaches Mass Media Law.

Education: Attended college at Jamestown College, pursued a legal education from Hamline University School of Law and was admitted to the North Dakota Bar in 2005. He graduated from Fargo South High School.

Don Larson

Age: 27

Political party: Republican.

Hometown: Surrey, near Minot

Professional experience: Legislative relations adviser for Gov. John Hoeven. Worked as a legislative liaison for the North Dakota Republican Party during the last legislative session and has served on a number of statewide campaigns in North Dakota, New Jersey and Tennessee. Larson also worked as communications director on the Hoeven 2004 campaign for governor.

Education: Bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in mass communications from North Dakota State University.

Ryan Berstein

Age: 28

Political party: Republican.

Hometown: Souris, near Bottineau.

Professional experience: Legal counsel and adviser to Hoeven. Also served as a legislative policy assistant for Hoeven in the 2000-01 legislative session and as clerk for Magistrate Judge Charles S. Miller, Jr. and Justice Dale Sandstrom of the North Dakota Supreme Court.

Education: Received his bachelor of science degree in agriculture economics from North Dakota State University.

Jaimie Selzer

Ran for the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 43.

Age: 28

Political party: Democrat

Hometown: Minot

Professional experience: Area manager with Amazon.com in Grand Forks. Sits on the board of directors of the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition and serves as a member of the Grand Forks Mayor's Cabinet on Young People.

Education: Currently a student in public administration at the University of North Dakota.

Mike Frohlich

Ran for the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 35.

Age: 32

Political party: Democrat

Professional experience: A GIS and technology specialist who currently works at the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Previously he was a curriculum and multimedia developer for the Natureshift! Project, a technology innovation challenge grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Frohlich has also served as a volunteer firefighter and recently started a multimedia company.

Education: Graduated from Dickinson State University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in composite social and behavioral science.

Jason Stverak

Age: 33

Political party: Republican.

Hometown: Rapid City, S.D.

Professional experience: Began serving as the executive director of the North Dakota Republican Party in 2001 after serving as the political director of the Nebraska Republican Party.

Education: Graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with a bachelor of arts degree in foreign service and Slavic studies and a minor in economics.

Cory Fong

Age: 34

Political party: Republican

Hometown: Helena, Mont.

Professional experience: Appointed state tax commissioner by Hoeven June 1, 2005, and re-elected to the position in 2006. Also served as deputy commissioner of the State Commerce Department and director of the Hoeven Committee, deputy secretary of state and director of elections division in the secretary of state's office.

Education: Earned bachelor's degree in political science and speech communications from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash.

Tony Clark

Age: 35

Political Party: Republican.

Hometown: Born in Platteville, Wis., and moved to Fargo at age 14.

Professional experience: Represented District 44 (Fargo) in the state House from 1994 to 1997 and from 1997 to 1999 he was administrative officer for the state tax department. He's served on the Public Service Commission since 2000, the last four years as its president.

Education: Earned two bachelor of science degrees from North Dakota State University in 1993 and 1994 and MPA from University of North Dakota in 2002.
