Taylor will be holding its annual honoring of the horse this weekend.
"The small community of Taylor envisioned an economic development plan to keep Taylor on the map," said Gayle Elkin of Taylor.
The plan is the Taylor Horse Fest. Horses were always key components in the development of the town, and citizens of Taylor decided it was important to honor them, Elkin said.
Admission to Horse Fest is $10 for adults, and children 12 and younger get in free. The activities will be located on the west side of Taylor on Heritage Hill.
Saturday will open with a traditional horse and horse-drawn equipment parade at 10 a.m. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., various vendors and exhibits of horse-drawn equipment or machinery will be shown. Different kids' activities and horse demonstrations will go on throughout most of the day.
The Taylor Horse Fest concert will be held at the elementary school gym at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The concert will feature a Washburn group, Cottonwood, and Sentinel Butte cowboy poet Bill Lowman. Tickets are $10, children 6 and younger get in free.
Sunday is the last day of the Horse Fest. The VFW is offering a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon. A non-denomination church service will be held at the elementary school at 10 a.m.
Proceeds from the Horse-Fest will go to the Taylor Community Association.
Anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 visitors come to see the Horse-Fest. "It is a good time and good entertainment for everyone," Elkin said.
Taylor is located about 75 miles west of Bismarck on I-94.
