A Mandan man already on probation for multiple felony convictions has been charged with violation of a domestic violence protection order.

Rygo Torres, 20, was charged Tuesday with the Class Cfelony. South Central District Judge Thomas Schneider set bond for Torres at $10,000 cash.

Torres, who formerly lived in Bismarck, was sentenced to three years with all but time served suspended and three years of supervised probation and $125 in fees on Feb. 6 for aggravated assault, child abuse or neglect and three felony charges of violation of a domestic violence protection order.

According to court documents, Torres also has another conviction for violation of a domestic violence protection order.

He was sentenced to 60 days in jail with 50 days suspended and credit for four days served, two years unsupervised probation and fines of $325 on that conviction.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena said a 20-year-old Bismarck woman who has a domestic violence protection order prohibiting Torres from contacting her reported Monday that Torres has called her many times since his release from jail on Feb. 7.

Torres was located in Mandan, his probation officer was contacted, and Torres was placed in the Burleigh County Detention Center, Buschena said.

Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell said Torres' criminal history revolves around incidents involving the 20-year-old woman, who is the mother of Torres' child.

She requested the $10,000 cash bond and said she doubted Torres would abide by the protection order.

She said Torres had not contacted his probation officer since his release from jail earlier this month.

Torres said he has not spoken with his probation officer because he is supposed to get his probation transferred to Texas, where he is originally from.

He said he is trying to get a job and has been obeying probation conditions. He denied violating the protection order.

"I've been doing everything the right way," he said.
