You'll notice, on pages 10 and 11 of the phone book, that Broadway in Bismarck runs in a little gray line for 37 blocks from Custer Park to Rosser Avenue.

The Little Gray Way.

As it happens, Broadway in Bismarck also runs from October to April.

The annual theatrical series - not the arterial avenue - will begin its sixth season this fall at the Civic Center. Jam Theatricals, the Chicago-based company that brings the shows to North Dakota, recently announced which productions will be coming to town.

Civic Center marketing manager Ross Horner said the family friendly titles in this incarnation of Broadway in Bismarck - "Annie" and "Peter Pan" among them - appear to have found a receptive audience.

"If the way subscriptions are coming in is any indication, this season really hit home with a lot of people in Bismarck," Horner said Monday. "This (lineup) is something they were looking for. We're selling really well."

The 2007-08 season will feature four productions. That's one less show than came to the Starlite Theatre during each of the series' first five seasons. Horner said that small factoid is a product of routing and schedules, not one based on popularity. Ticket sales, he reiterated, have been brisk.

Jam also could shoehorn a fifth show into this season, should it find one that would fit.

The Chicago company has committed itself to Bismarck. Its initial five-year agreement with the Civic Center ended when the curtain fell on "Urban Cowboy" in April. Horner said the arena and Jam have agreed to continue their relationship.

"They're extremely happy to be here," he said. "They're here for the long haul. We're going into our sixth season now, so we've had a lot of shows come through. Something they might need to start looking at is bringing back some of the more popular shows."

That already has begun, in a way.

The success of "Cirque Dreams" in 2005 prompted the promoters to route this season's version of the Cirque du Soleil-style show through Bismarck. "Cirque Dreams: Jungle Fantasy" will prowl its way onto the stage in February.

"'Cirque Dreams' is very popular here," Horner said. "We're really happy with this season's lineup."

Here's how the schedule looks:

- "Peter Pan" - 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24

- "Cirque Dreams: Jungle Fantasy" - 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20

- "The Fresh Aire Music of Mannheim Steamroller" - 7:30 p.m. April 9

- "Annie" - 7:30 p.m. April 22

Subscriptions for the season are on sale now. They range in price, depending on seats, from $99 to $189. To reserve tickets, go to the Civic Center box office, or call 355-1384.
