A horse painted like a patchwork quilt was stolen from the Bismarck-Mandan Convention & Visitors Bureau, police say.
"Prairie Patches," one of 30 fiberglass horses being auctioned off to support Easter Seals Goodwill and the Child's Hope Learning Center, was stolen between 7 p.m. Thursday and 7:45 a.m. Friday, said Lt. Dan Donlin of the Bismarck Police Department.
The horse was removed from its cement base at the bureau, which is located at 1600 Burnt Boat Drive.
Beverly Lloyd Haas, of Taylor, decorated the fiberglass horse to honor prairie quilters.
The 30 horses will be on display across Bismarck and Mandan until Aug. 15. Then they'll be taken to Kirkwood Mall before being auctioned off on Aug. 25 at the Seven Seas Inn in Mandan.
Gordon Hauge, CEO of Easter Seals Goodwill Inc. of North Dakota, did not return phone calls seeking comment Monday. Officials at the Convention & Visitors Bureau were not available for comment.
Anyone with information about the crime should call the Bismarck Police Department at 223-1212 or Bismarck Area Crime Stoppers at 224-TIPS (224-8477).
