A judge has set a $25,000 cash bond for a man labeled a "person of interest" in the death of Alden J. Fast Horse.
South Central District Judge Donald Jorgensen set the bond for Sheldon McHugh, 19, at the request of Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Cynthia Feland.
Fast Horse, 30, was found dead in a hotel room at the Ramkota Hotel, 800 S. Third St., at 12:03 p.m. June 5. Police said Fast Horse, of Cannon Ball, had been stabbed.
McHugh was arrested on a petition for revocation of probation after a brief chase from Moorhead, Minn., to Fargo on Monday night. He is on probation due to an aggravated assault conviction. According to court documents, McHugh stabbed a man in 2005 when he was 16 years old. His probation has been revoked twice previously.
Parole and Probation Officer Steven Bohl filed the petition on Friday, which alleges McHugh violated his probation by failing to report to Bohl as instructed. In court Wednesday afternoon, McHugh said he had been in contact with Bohl on June 3.
"I see him regularly,"he said.
Feland explained that McHugh is accused of not telling Bohl he was leaving the Bismarck-Mandan area. Bohl was contacted by authorities who were looking for McHugh for questioning in Fast Horse's death.
"They needed something to bring me into jail," McHugh told Jorgensen.
McHugh has not been charged in relation to Fast Horse's death.
Three people already have been arrested for crimes against Fast Horse, but no one has been implicated directly for the death.
Leland Bad Brave, 21, and James Wisbey, 22, have been charged with Class Bfelony burglary for allegedly breaking into Fast Horse's motel room at the Ramkota. Bad Brave and Elena Vassar, 22, have been charged with Class Afelony conspiracy to commit robbery.
The conspiracy they are alleged to have been involved in involved driving to the Ramkota, obtaining weapons, entering the Ramkota, entering room 3170, striking Fast Horse and "directing the force of a dangerous weapon against Alden Fast Horse." Feland has said other people could face charges in the alleged conspiracy.
Bad Brave is in the Detention Center on an $80,000 bond, Vassar on a $30,000 bond and Wisbey on a $5,000 bond.
Police have said Fast Horse was in Bismarck to visit family. He had checked in at the Ramkota on Monday, but police do not know how long he planned to stay. A Ramkota employee found Fast Horse unresponsive when an acquaintance showed up to give Fast Horse a ride on Thursday. Police and emergency personnel arrived on scene, then detectives were called to investigate.
