Lincoln council members Karen Daly, Pete Hoerner and Mayor Glenn Christmann will be facing a recall election as petitions being circulated by a group chaired by Sonia Nygaard were turned in just prior to Monday's 4:30 p.m. deadline.

Lincoln auditor Kim Kramer said there had been some indication the petitions would be turned in on time. She had received a call from the secretary of state's office making sure her office would be open Monday.

Kramer now has until Friday to verify the signatures on the seven petitions she has received, certify them and set an election date. A group chaired by Pete Albrecht turned in their petitions recalling council members Helen Magilke, Mary Ann Filibeck, Ricky Fischer and Kathy Schneibel on June 17. Knowing there were petitions being circulated to recall the rest of the council, Kramer had the option of waiting until the second set appeared, allowing her to have the election for all the positions on the same date.

Upon certifying the recall petitions, the earliest Kramer can call for a recall election is Sept. 8. After setting the election date, any qualified Lincoln resident can apply for the city council positions. Potential candidates will be required to turn in petitions with the signatures of 23 LIncoln residents to qualify for the election.

Council members have the opportunity to not run for the council by resigning their position, but all have indicated they will attempt to remain on the council.

In an earlier interview, Nygaard said her group wasn't necessarily upset with how Christmann, Daly and Hoerner were conducting themselves on the council, but felt that the entire council should be recalled rather than just four.
